Changes to Canadian Electrical Code

To improve the safety of electrical equipment across the province, a new version of the Canadian Electrical Code will be adopted in BC effective October 1, 2022. The new code includes changes to support electrical workers in the safe installation and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment. 

Gas Safety Regulation amendments

To improve the safety of gas technical equipment across the province, changes to the BC gas installation codes have been adopted into the Gas Safety Regulation. These changes will come into effect October 1, 2022.

Work performed under permits taken out from October 1, 2022 onward will require compliance with the new editions of codes adopted under M 191 Appendix 1.

Changes to electrical operating permits

Effective January 16, 2022, a physical signature is no longer required to perform your annual Field Safety Representative (FSR) verification. 

2021 fees now in effect

As a not-for-profit organization, Technical Safety BC does not receive any government funding. Instead, we operate using fees collected from our services to ensure safety oversight throughout BC. This includes funding education opportunities and compliance and enforcement activities to uphold fairness for those participating in BC’s safety system. 

StaRite and Mastertemp pool heaters recalled

Health Canada has issued a recall of certain StaRite and Mastertemp gas fired pool heaters with a specific model number that were manufactured between December 22, 2020 to January 6, 2021.

Electrical Code changes: open consultation

Technical Safety BC is in the process of reviewing the 2021 Canadian Electrical Code for adoption in BC. As part of this review, we encourage anyone involved or interested in the electrical industry to participate in our open consultation, where you will have a platform to share your feedback on the proposed changes.
