Exam information

Class A Pressure Welder practical exams are conducted by Technical Safety BC, at the test facility of a recognized test administrator.

Note that Class IT and Class R practical exams are conducted by recognized test administrators and are not included here.

Before your exam

You must apply for your certificate before you can book your exam.

To apply, submit an application form along with proof (pictures or photocopies) that you meet the exam eligibility requirements.

Once we receive your application, we will contact you to pay the combined application and practical examination invigilation fee. If your review is successful, we will contact you to schedule your exam.

Note: The host location where the exam is invigilated may also collect fees which are separate from the combined application and practical examination fee mentioned above. For more information on these fees, please contact the host location directly.

Scheduling your exam

You can expect to schedule your practical exam approximately one month after fee payment has been received. This will give you the opportunity to practice for your exam at your recognized test administrator’s facility.

After your exam

Upon passing your exam, the boiler safety officer who administered your exam will complete an Exam Record, which will act as a temporary Class A Pressure Welder certificate until your wallet card arrives. It may take up to six weeks for your wallet card to be delivered.

Your temporary certificate will allow you to begin performance qualification tests without delay. Performance qualification tests must be conducted by a recognized test administrator.

You must also continue to keep your Welders Log Book up to date.

Certificate renewal

Class A Pressure Welder certificates must be renewed every 3 years. Learn more.

Class R and Class IT Pressure Welder certificates cannot be renewed.
