Gas certification

Technical Safety BC offers a variety of Gas certificates that allow you to perform regulated gas work in BC.

How to apply

To successfully apply for a Gas certificate, you must:

• Meet the minimum requirements of your chosen certificate
• Apply for and pass an exam

Transfer to BC

If you have a Gas Fitter certificate of qualification from another province or territory, or from a different country, you still need to get certified in order to work in BC. Learn more about transferring to BC from out of province or out of country.

Renewal

Gas certificates expire three years after their date of issue. See our Renewal page for more information.

Certificate closure

Note that all Gas certificates are closed three years after their expiry date. If you let your Gas certificate close, you will no longer be able to renew the certificate. 

If you want to use a closed Gas certificate, you will need to get it re-issued. This means you will have to re-apply for, and successfully complete, the relevant certification exam.
